Interactions in the <i>Brassica napus</i> – <i>Pyrenopeziza brassicae</i> pathosystem and sources of resistance to <i>P. brassicae</i> (light leaf spot)

Pyrenopeziza brassicae, cause of light leaf spot (LLS), is an important pathogen oilseed rape and vegetable brassicas has a wide geographic distribution. Exploitation host resistance remains the most sustainable economically viable solution for disease management. This study evaluated 18 cultivars or breeding lines against P. brassicae in glasshouse experiments. Selected cultivars/lines were inoculated with eight single-spore isolates obtained from three different regions England. Analysis infection-related changes on plants identified deformation as characteristic feature associated infection, this showed poor correlation to LLS severity measured amount sporulation infected plants. Resistant phenotypes by limitation sporulation, without presence necrotic response (black flecking phenotype). Investigation pathosystem revealed significant differences between cultivars/lines, isolates, cultivar/line-by-isolate interactions. In total, 37 resistant 16 moderately interactions 144 using statistical methods. Most resistant/moderately appeared be nonspecific towards tested. Our results suggested isolate-specific some cultivars. Several sources have been that are valuable programmes.
